Forbes: Don’t buy the Xbox One

The holiday console war is in full swing now and points are being scored on both sides. Sony came out strong, selling more than 1 million PlayStation 4 consoles during the box’s first 24 hours of availability alone. Then Microsoft’s Xbox One launched a week later and matched the PS4′s astonishing first-day sales performance. Things seemed to be leaning in the Xbox’s favor after sales of the new console crushed the PS4 at Walmart and Target on Black Friday, but PlayStation 4 supply constraints may have been to blame — Sony would later announce that it sold 2.1 million PS4 consoles so far and Microsoft has yet to issue a real response. Both consoles have their merits and either one seems like a solid buy this holiday season, but those considering the Xbox One should pump the brakes according to one reviewer.
Forbes contributor Patrick Moorhead recently shared his thoughts after buying and using the new Xbox One for a while, and the verdict isn’t good.
“I have been impressed with just about every new game console for one reason or another and have been a long-time Xbox player,” Moorhead began in his article. “I’m really sorry to say that the Microsoft Xbox One ‘Day One’ Edition just didn’t impress me like prior generations, and I think you are probably better off waiting it out until the current situation changes. I admit, this could be my over-expectations or truly an under-delivery, but at any rate, let me hopefully provide some insight here.”

In other words, don’t buy the Xbox One this holiday season.

The analyst then laid out his complaints and some of them are very fair. Others are a questionable at best. His first complaint, for example, is the fact that the console itself is gigantic. ”When just about everyone else in consumer electronics went svelte, the Xbox One went huge,” Moorhead griped. “It’s almost as if it were designed for a decade before Apple TVs, Rokus, iPads and Mac Airs existed. By the tape, even without the massive power brick, the Xbox One is 60% larger than the Sony PS4 which doesn’t need a power brick, 35% larger than its 360 ‘Slim’ predecessor, and 32X larger than an Apple TV that doesn’t need a power brick.”

He’s clearly correct, but luckily gamers don’t have to hold the Xbox One itself while playing. This isn’t a Nintendo DSi. It sits on a shelf and goes untouched until the user inserts or removes a disc. In fact, gamers don’t even have to touch the box to turn it on and off anymore thanks to Kinect.
Moving on, the analyst also noted a less-than-impressive bump in graphics quality, antiquated Kinect voice controls, the high price tag for the console and necessary add-ons, and the short list of currently available games among his top complaints about the Xbox One. In the end, he said that he and his son both got bored with the Xbox very quickly and he recommends that consumers skip Microsoft’s new console for at least a year until some or all of the aforementioned issues are ironed out.

Black and White: Xbox One Color Options?

While our own Eric is getting ready to pick up his Xbox One later on tonight, Microsoft's Xbox Live operations manager Eric Neustadter showed off what Xbox One team employees will be playing their launch software on.

Both the Console and the Controller are emblazoned with the words “I Made This” and “Launch Team 2013.” A console from this very limited run was sold on eBay for $11,300 in support of the Wounded Warrior Project.

As long as it plays the same games, should consumers really be worried about the color of their console? Thats probably just me, but if you think it should be an option in the future, hit us up in the comment section and explain why.

Free Xbox from Microsoft

Long time Xbox users have been receiving emails from Microsoft with a pretty big surprise inside. Copies of Xbox One's have been given out to some users (supposedly Master Level on their rewards program). There are two possible packages at the moment with one including Forza Motorsport 5 and others receiving Forza, Dead Rising 3, Ryse: Son of Rome, Zoo Tycoon, 12 months of Xbox Music, and 12 months of Xbox Live Gold.

On twitter Xbox explained more:

@Futterish We considered a variety of things like Gamerscore, LIVE tenure, & other factors in markets where #XboxOne is available.

Final Round Up; Playstation 4 or Xbox One?

With the release of Next-Gen Consoles mere days away, its time for a final match up. Have you made your decisions yet?

Specs-wise, Developers have since expressed that the PS4 is more powerful than the Xbox One, with a confirmation that most, if not all, Cross-Platform games, like the anticipated COD: Ghosts running Native 1080p on the PS4 but will only run Upscaled 720p on the Xbox One

The Xbox One will allow users to play CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Rays, while the PS4 cannot even play CDs but only DVDs and Blu-Ray discs. Xbox One will also be compatible with DLNA, meaning that it can be used as a Media Server.
The Xbox One will be released on Nov. 22, which is a full week after The Playstation 4 Nov. 15 release date. Furthermore, the Xbox One also costs more at $499 than the more budget-friendly PS4, which is going to be $100 cheaper. Sure, Microsoft's Xbox One will be more expensive, but take note that it will also include more such as the new Kinect which allows Voice Control for the Xbox One's UI, with Sony's Camera can be purchased separately for 60$

Analysts are predicting that Sony and Microsoft will ship around 2.5 million game consoles combined in the upcoming season.

The Xbox One will need the same Xbox Live membership to play Online games, which wont be much of a problem for people who are considering the Xbox One as they should have a background of how to Xbox 360's Xbox Live works. Its a different Story though, for Sony's upcoming PS4 as Shuhei Yoshida explained that  "The main pillar for the PS4 will be online play. We're developing many new ways to play and connect which requires a large investment of resources. Considering the cost, to try to keep such a service free and consequently lower the quality would be absurd. We decided that if that's the case, then it would be better to receive proper payment and continue to offer a good service.

"Both Consoles are NOT Backwards compatible, Disc-wise, But Gakai, which Sony acquired June of 2012, has expressed that someday, they want to bring Legacy titles to the PS4 via their Cloud Service.

"We want to build a system that preserved the best of console gaming, so that developers can write to the metal, they can continue to optimize, they can continue to build better looking games over time and also have this part of the system reserved for the future." - Albert Penello, Xbox One's Director of Product Planning

With most next-gen games optimized to run at 60fps, will the majority of gamers really notice the difference? I still think that it all boils down to preference, and exclusive titles like Titan Fall for the Xbox and Infamous: Second Son for the PS4, though most of the titles for the PS4 has been pushed back to 2014. I find no reason to discriminate one console over the other as both obviously have their own pros and cons. Game On!

[RANT] Reasons Why I Cancelled my PS4 Pre-Order

With Watchdogs being pushed back to Spring of Next Year (A big Shoutout to Eric Aceman for getting that article up) and the PS4 Dualshock 4 Controller Out in the wild, I feel like even if I did a Midnight Release Pickup for the PS4, I wouldn't have anything to play on it.

The other game I'm looking forward to is Infamous: Second Son, which is not due for February of 2014, I mean sure, Sony has recently added another Launch Title for the PS4, bringing to line-up to 22 titles so far, including the Next-Gen version of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, two highly anticipated shooters, COD: Ghosts and Battlefield 4 to name a few.

Those impressive titles just aren't my kind of games, I could easily buy Black Flag for the PS3 anyway, if ever I wanted to play it. Given my current Backlog of games, I will barely have time to play Next-Gen even if I get it soon. I HAVEN'T EVEN GOTTEN MYSELF A COPY OF POKEMON X OR Y.

I'm not saying that I won't be getting it, I'm saying is that I'll wait, knowing Sony, they'll have a crap ton of Software updates, which is fine, before the PS4 becomes stable.

I've also just recently upgraded my Alienware's CPU to an I7, I know it's still not as impressive as some of your gaming rigs out there, but give me a break, its still more powerful than the PS4 and Xbox One ;) INB4 PCMASTERRACE JOKES.

You guys will still have regular streaming from Aceman and Ametis, and if I'm not mistaken, Aceman will be getting both consoles and will be streaming from both via his Twitch, so make sure to catch his livestreams

Thoughts or Negative Reactions, Try to sway me otherwise? Hit me up on the comments section below! Did you manage to pre-order the PS4 and/or Xbox One?

Activision Calls out to Rockstar Games

With all the Records currently held by Rockstar's latest hit, GTA V, Activision thinks that Rockstar is getting too comfortable.

In a recent interview, Activision UK Senior Brand Member Kevin Flynn said that the release of Call of Duty: Ghosts will be a wake up call for other companies that think they dominate the market.

"Congratulations to the team at Rockstar for their success," he said, before adding, "We look forward to getting the record back before the next GTA title."

COD: Ghosts is set for a November 5 release on PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U, with the PS4 and Xbox One versions available at the consoles launch.
